NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jun 26 –
Clinicians should have a high index of suspicion for melanoma when assessing melanocytic skin lesions in pediatric patients, German researchers report, in order to improve survival through early treatment.
Dr. Monika H. Schmid-Wendtner and colleagues from Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich report on 36 cases of cutaneous melanoma that developed in children and adolescents younger than 18 years of age. They were among 6931 melanoma patients seen at the university between 1977 and 1998.
