A high intake of saturated fat increases the risk of pancreatic cancer in smokers, according to a report in the May 1st issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology.
In a prospective study, Dr. Rachael Z. Stolzenberg-Solomon, of the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, Maryland, and colleagues examined dietary factors thought to be associated with exocrine pancreatic cancer in 27,111 male smokers enrolled in he Alpha-Tocopherol, Beta-Carotene Cancer Prevention Study. One hundred sixty-three of the subjects developed pancreatic cancer between 1985 and 1997.
