NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 23 – Tazarotene gel applied to the skin once or twice daily for no longer than 5 minutes is a safe and effective treatment for acne vulgaris, according to a report published in the April issue of the Archives of Dermatology.
The topical use of retinoid agents, like tazarotene, is often limited by the occurrence of local adverse effects, such as skin peeling, dryness, and redness. Dr. Susan Bershad, from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, and colleagues hypothesized that limiting tazarotene exposure times to less than 5 minutes could reduce the adverse effects without compromising the drug's efficacy.
