Helicobacter pylori immunoglobulin G (IgG) positivity is not related to dyspepsia or gastroparesis in uremic patients, regardless of whether or not they are on dialysis.
Investigators from the Department of Internal Medicine at Ghent University Hospital in Ghent, Belgium, assessed Helicobacter status, dyspeptic symptoms and gastric emptying in uremic patients who were either not on dialysis, or undergoing hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.
Dyspeptic symptoms were assessed using a standardized questionnaire and gastric emptying was determined by a breath test. Helicobacter pylori IgG was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
