NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Mar 20 – There is little solid evidence that relaxation therapy is effective in asthma management, according to a review of such interventions by researchers at the University of Exeter in the UK.
Dr. A. Huntley and colleagues note that "emotional stress can either precipitate or exacerbate both acute and chronic asthma." The researchers therefore sought to determine whether approaches involving relaxation were useful in asthma therapy.
To investigate, the team conducted literature searches and identified 15 randomized clinical trials involving relaxation for asthma therapy. Their findings are published in the February issue of Thorax.
