Researchers report there may be safety merits in modifying the dosing schedule for heparin to increase therapeutic infusion rates when factors such as patient weight and natural body build are considered more closely.
For patients experiencing acute coronary syndromes, heparin therapy is currently based on standard protocols rather than on patient characteristics. Researchers from the University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB) presented the findings at the clinical meeting of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists held here December 8-12.
