Men with metabolic syndrome are more than twice as likely to die of coronary heart disease than their peers without the condition, according to a report published in the December 4th issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Metabolic syndrome is a known risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease, lead author Dr. Hanna-Maaria Lakka, from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, and colleagues note. Still, the impact of metabolic syndrome on cardiovascular and overall mortality is unclear.
