Carotid Artery Stenting With Capture Device Superior to Endarterectomy

Preliminary data presented here Tuesday at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2002 indicate that the rate of major adverse events after carotid artery stenting using a capture device is about half that of conventional carotid endarterectomy.

Thirty-day data of the SAPPHIRE (Stenting and Angioplasty with Protection in Patients at HIgh Risk for Endarterectomy) trial were presented by Dr. Jay Yadov of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
