In a multicenter, randomized trial reported in the Oct. 1 issue of Circulation, simvastatin was safe, effective, and well tolerated in older children.
“We found that simvastatin at doses up to 40 mg is a well-tolerated and effective therapy for children with inherited high cholesterol,” lead author Saskia de Jongh, MD, from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, says in a news release. “In addition, the drug exhibited a safety and tolerability profile similar to that seen in adults and does not influence growth and pubertal development.”
