In New York Heart Association (NYHA) class III heart failure patients who have chronic atrial fibrillation (AF) and a wide QRS complex, biventricular pacing improves exercise tolerance compared with conventional right-univentricular pacing.
In a randomized crossover trial, Dr. Christophe Leclercq from Hopital Pontchaillou/CHU, Rennes, France, and colleagues compare biventricular pacing and right-univentricular pacing in 59 patient. These patients were all NYHA functional class III with chronic AF and QRS complexes of 200 ms or more. Patients were monitored during two 3-month treatment periods.
