Anemia is relatively common in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) and correlates with the severity of the disease, according to a report in the November issue of the International Journal of Cardiology. “Recently, it was reported that anemia in congestive heart failure patients is common and correlated with the severity of disease,” Dr. Paul Mohacsi and colleagues from University Hospital, Bern, Switzerland, note.
“In these patients with anemia, treatment with erythropoietin and intravenous iron improved cardiac function significantly.”
