Major protocol deviations occur in two thirds of the cases of acute stroke thrombolytic therapy and probably contribute to increased mortality and morbidity, according to a report in the September 23rd issue of Archives of Internal Medicine.
Thrombolytic therapy of acute ischemic stroke clearly improves outcomes in randomized clinical trials, the authors explain, but whether those improvements can be replicated in clinical practice is unclear.
