The use of aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is associated with a reduced risk of esophageal cancer, according to the results of a meta-analysis published in the January 2003 issue of Gastroenterology.
Aspirin and NSAID use have been linked to decreased risks of developing colon and other cancers, the authors explain, but it is unclear from previous studies whether they afford any protection against esophageal cancer.
