The bronchodilatory response to salbutamol (albuterol) administration is significantly reduced in asthmatic children when the agent is given immediately after methacholine challenge, Dutch researchers report in the December issue of the Journal of Asthma.
Dr. Ruurd Jan Roorda and colleagues at Weezenlanden Hospital, Zwolle, note that airway responses to inhaled bronchodilators and bronchoconstrictors such as methacholine are often used in assessment of childhood asthma and in research.
