Findings from a new study indicate that avoiding predilatation prior to stenting certain coronary lesions may decrease restenosis rates. The proposed benefits of direct stenting include a reduction in procedure time, lower cost, less radiation exposure, and less vessel injury.
Although several reports have shown direct stenting to be feasible and safe, no studies have rigorously compared the long-term results of stenting with and without predilatation.
