For the first time, scientists in The Netherlands and Germany present evidence that adipose tissue receives input not only from sympathetic neurons, but from parasympathetic neurons that stimulate fat’s insulin-mediated uptake of glucose and free fatty acids.
Based on their findings, Dr. Felix Kreier, of the University of Amsterdam, and colleagues believe that parasympathetic input may be involved in obesity and in the pathogenesis of obesity-related diseases.
