As they age, osteoblasts undergo gene expression changes that increase the production of osteoclasts, and this may lead to osteoporosis, new research suggests.
Dr. Bernard P. Halloran, with the University of California San Francisco, and colleagues presented their findings at the 42nd annual meeting of the American Society for Cell Biology here.
