Magnetic resonance imaging can identify brain abnormalities linked to psychotic diseases like schizophrenia before the symptoms begin, according to Australian researchers.
Dr. Christos Pantelis and colleagues scanned the brains of 75 people with prodromal signs of psychosis but no frank symptoms. After 12 months or more they scanned 21 individuals again–ten of whom had developed psychosis and 11 who had not–to monitor longitudinal change.
