Elevated IgA Levels May Be Marker for Chronic C. pneumoniae Infection

Persistently elevated levels of specific IgA antibodies to Chlamydia pneumoniae are associated with marked respiratory dysfunction, supporting the idea that elevated IgA levels are a marker for chronic C. pneumoniae infection, according to a recent report.

At present, there are no generally accepted criteria for a diagnosis of chronic C. pneumoniae infection. Typically, such infections are assumed to be present if specific IgA levels are increased.
