Women with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) are much more likely to die during pregnancy than women in the general population, researchers report. Still, the absolute risk of death for such women is low.
Dr. Camillo Autore, from Universita di Roma in Italy, and colleagues compared maternal mortality in 100 women with HCM with that in the general Italian population. In a subset of 40 women, HCM-related morbidity was evaluated.
