Exposure to ozone (O3) increases the eosinophilic airway inflammatory response due to allergen inhalation in asthmatic patients, according to a report in the October 15th issue of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
In a randomized, single-blind study, Dr. Barbara Vagaggini and colleagues from the University of Pisa, Italy, examined the effect of a 2-hour exposure to O3 or filtered air in 12 patients with mild asthma who had undergone allergen challenge 24 hours before.
