More than 9 out of 10 British family physicians report that they routinely prescribe topical antibiotics for acute infective conjunctivitis, even though most believe that more than half of the cases are viral not bacterial, a new survey shows.
A poll of more than 200 general practitioners (GPs) in southern England revealed that 95% usually prescribe topical antibiotics to patients presenting with acute infective conjunctivitis.
