White Coat Hypertension Not Associated With Endothelial Dysfunction

In contrast to patients with sustained hypertension, middle-aged men and women with white coat hypertension but without cardiovascular risk factors do not exhibit endothelial dysfunction, Italian researchers report.

Dr. Sante D. Pierdomenico from the Istituto di Patologia Medica Policlinco “S.S. Annunziata,” Chieti, and colleagues studied 22 patients with sustained hypertension and 22 patients with white coat hypertension and compared them with 22 normotensive subjects. Patients were an average of 45 years of age.
