Adenocarcinomas of the lung positive for the cell adhesion molecule CEACAM1 have poorer overall and relapse-free survival compared with CEACAM1-negative tumors, German researchers report.
“Two thirds of our patients had an adenocarcinoma of the lung expressing CEACAM1,” Dr. Eckart Laack told Reuters Health. “An upregulation of CEACAM1 in the malignant tissue, which was associated with an poorer survival, is a novel finding and differs from the expression pattern of CEACAM1 in other epithelial neoplasias like breast, colorectal, prostate, and endometrial cancer,” he added.
