Fewer Women Give Birth Vaginally After C-Section

The rate of vaginal births among women who have had a previous cesarean section dropped during the late 1990s in California–a decline that mirrors national trends, US health officials report.

 In 2000, 15% of California women who had a previous C-section subsequently delivered vaginally, down from 23% in 1996. Similarly, past research has shown that the national rate of vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) declined from 28% in 1996 to 23% in 1999.
