Although physical fitness is thought to protect individuals from thrombotic cardiovascular events, this may not be true for middle aged individuals, say investigators from Glasgow, Scotland.
Intense exercise is known to be a trigger for thrombotic events in untrained individuals at risk for cardiovascular disease, however, controversy exists as to whether this applies to physically fit, healthy, middle aged individuals as well.
Dr. E. Mackie and coworkers from the University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Scotland, assessed haemostatic changes after exercise in a group of trained subjects in the age group at risk of acute coronary events. He presented the findings here at the 24th annual meeting of the European Society of Cardiology.
