Adolescents with depression are at increased risk for the development and persistence of obesity, according to results of a prospective study described in the September issue of Pediatrics.
Drs. Elizabeth Goodman, currently with Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, and Robert C. Whitaker, of Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, evaluated data regarding more than 9,000 adolescents who were in grades 7 to 12 when first
interviewed in 1995.
