Nicotine replacement therapies are less effective in helping smokers quit over the long-term now that the products are sold without a prescription, new study findings show.
Most people who bought over-the-counter (OTC) products did not use them for a full 6 weeks–the minimum treatment time recommended. However, the authors add, these findings could also indicate that nicotine replacement therapies are not as effective as they are marketed to be.
