Findings from a recent meta-analysis provide further evidence that increased magnesium intake is associated with reductions in blood pressure.
The association between magnesium intake and blood pressure has been unclear. Support for an inverse relationship has come from several epidemiologic studies, yet clinical trials investigating the effects of magnesium supplementation have yielded conflicting results.
To better understand the relationship, Dr. Edgar R. Miller III, from The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore, and colleagues conducted a meta-analysis using data from 20 randomized trials that studied the effects of magnesium supplementation on blood pressure.
