Grit blasted, press-fit, collarless, tapered femoral prostheses continue to perform well clinically and radiographically for up to 16 years of follow-up.
Because of its performance and durability, this implant is an alternative for fixation without bone cement, according to investigators from the Department of Orthopaedics at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia, United States, and the Hospital of Santa Corona, Scienza e Vita Foundation in Pietra Ligure, Italy.
The investigators evaluated the first 300 consecutive primary hip arthroplasty procedures that used this femoral prosthesis. Independent clinical and radiographic follow-up examinations were conducted for 10 to 16 years. Average follow-up was for 12.6 years.
