RSV Immune Globulin in High-Risk Infants Improves Respiratory Status Years Later

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jun 24 –

 Treating infants who have bronchopulmonary dysplasia or chronic lung disease with respiratory syncytial virus immune globulin (RSV IG) results in improved pulmonary function and reduced prevalence of atopy up to a decade later, report investigators from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver.

 Thirteen infants who were born prematurely and who required at least 30 days of supplemental oxygen received prophylactic RSV IG 750 mg/kg (Respigam;MedImmune, Inc., Gaithersburg, Maryland). They were matched by age with 26 children who were at similar high risk of long-term respiratory complications, but who did not receive RSV IG.
