NEW YORK (Reuters Health) May 02 – A high dietary intake of folate may substantially lower the risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease (CVD), according to new data from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES I) Epidemiologic Follow-up Study.
Dr. Jiang He, from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, New Orleans, and colleagues examined data for 9764 men and women, 25 to 74 years of age, who participated in NHANES I. At baseline, the subjects were free from CVD.
