NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Mar 28 – Infection with Coxiella burnetii during pregnancy causes abortion, French investigators report in the March 25th issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine. They say that women who develop Q fever during pregnancy should be treated with co-trimoxazole for the duration of their pregnancy.
In order to examine the best treatment strategy for Q fever, caused by C. burnetii, during pregnancy, Dr. Didier Raoult and colleagues, from Universit de la M diterran e, Marseille, studied the outcomes of 17 infected women with and without co-trimoxazole treatment.
