Anthrax Vaccination Does Not Affect Pregnancy Outcome

Pre-pregnancy anthrax vaccination does not affect pregnancy, lead to adverse birth outcomes or affect birth rates, United States Army researchers say.

A cohort of 4,092 army women, 17 to 44 years of age, were studied. A total of 3,136 of the women received at least one dose of anthrax vaccine. Participants were stationed at one of two army bases from January 1999 through March 2000.

"These results do not support the hypothesis of a decrease in pregnancy rates nor an increase in foetal loss rates or adverse foetal outcomes among those receiving anthrax vaccination prior to pregnancy," the researchers concluded.
