NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Mar 26 – Compared with uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP), dental appliances appear to have higher success rates with regard to somnographic variables in patients with mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), according to a report in the March issue of Chest. Moreover, the devices have little effect on stomatognathic architecture.
Dr. Marie-Louise Walker-Engstrom and colleagues, from Central Hospital, Vasteras, Sweden, examined the effects of treatment with a dental appliance or UPPP on somnographic variables in 95 male patients with OSA followed for 4 years.
