Early stem migration is predictive of stem failure in primary cemented total hip replacement, European researchers say. In a study of 91 patients who underwent 97 hip replacements, early migration of more than two millimetres was seen in 16 stems.
Of these, five failed, say investigators from the University of Glasgow in Glasgow, Scotland, and Asclepeion Hospital in Athens, Greece.
