Researchers have refined a vaccine for Helicobacter pylori that induces both humoral and cellular mucosal immune responses in healthy, uninfected volunteers. They describe their work in the November issue of Gut.
Dr. Pierre Michetti and colleagues of Harvard Medical School in Boston, as well as associates at OraVax-Peptide Therapeutics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, previously reported safety and efficacy of an oral vaccine comprised of recombinant H. pylori urease together with the mucosal adjuvant Escherichia coli heat-labile enterotoxin (LT).
