At least one half of older adults with hypertension do not have their blood pressure controlled to levels that would limit their risk of heart disease and stroke, according to findings from a large national study.
Failing to keep systolic blood pressure below 140 mm Hg may account for up to 22% of myocardial infarctions and 34% of strokes that occur each year in older adults, the researchers note.
