Osteoprotegerin Polymorphisms Associated With Postmenopausal Osteoporosis Risk

Two particular polymorphisms in the osteoprotegerin gene promoter may be involved in the regulation of bone mineral density (BMD) and be a risk factor for osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, researchers report. Dr. Janja Marc from the Clinical Center, Ljubljana, Slovenia, and colleagues screened 103 postmenopausal women with osteoporosis.

The researchers looked for sequence variations in the osteoprotegerin gene promoter and examined the association of these variations with BMD.
