NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Jul 11 –
High cholesterol is a significant risk factor for nonhemorrhagic stroke-related death in relatively young women without a history of cardiovascular disease.
African-American women are particularly vulnerable. That’s according to results of the Women’s Pooling Project, a prospective cohort study combining data from eight longitudinal studies involving 24,343 ethnically diverse women. Dr. Lori Mosca of Columbia University in New York and colleagues evaluated the risk of death caused by different types of stroke by race, age, and cholesterol level.
