Cholesterol Levels Predictive of Cerebrovascular Disease


NEW YORK (Reuters Health) May 13 –

In patients with coronary heart disease (CHD), total and LDL-cholesterol (C) levels are directly related to the risk of cerebrovascular disease (CVD), while HDL-C levels are inversely related to the risk, according to a report published in the May 13th issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.

While improving cholesterol levels may reduce the risk of stroke, findings from another study indicate that most elderly people do not know their cholesterol levels or the side effects associated with the cholesterol-lowering drugs they are taking.
