Low levels of depression in the elderly can persist for long periods and may be a risk factor for more serious episodes, according to researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center, New York. Lead investigator Dr. Jeffrey M. Lyness told Reuters Health that “so-called ‘lesser’ depressions, that is, minor depression and subsyndromal depression, often persist after 1 year.”
