New Biomarkers for Ovarian, Breast, and Head and Neck Cancers Identified

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) Apr 10 – Researchers have identified new biomarkers for ovarian, breast, and head and neck cancers that could lead to earlier detection of these malignancies and improved treatment outcomes, according to study findings presented this week at a major oncology meeting in San Francisco.
The markers identified include haptoglobin alpha, a serum protein elevated in ovarian cancer patients, RhoC, a protein found in small, but invasive breast cancers, and FGFR4 G388R, a genetic mutation linked to decreased survival in head and neck cancer patients. The results of three studies investigating the markers were presented at the 93rd Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research.
