Lower endogenous estradiol levels are linked in older people with poor cognitive function as well as with upsets in behaviours and activities of daily living.
In this joint Thailand-United States study, 135 community-based men and women in urban Bangkok who had lower estrogen levels were found to have more behavioural disturbances and worse cognition and function.
V. Senanarong and colleagues from Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok, and the School of Medicine, University of California Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California are the authors of the study.
Of the 135 study participants, 72 had dementia and 63 did not. No correlation was found between age and level of endogenous estradiol in either men or women.
